| NEPZA: Private Sector Comes of Age. | 2008-01-08 5:27:09 PM |
| Recently, the business community in Nigeria came together for the ground-breaking ceremony of the first private Export Processing Zone in the country. Max Amuchie, who was at the event, writes that it marks the coming of age of NEPZA It was October 5. Venue was a large expanse of virgin land in the Magbon Segun village in the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State. The early morning drizzle did nothing to affect the programme. For those involved especially the Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), it was a day of triumph. The crowd was overwhelming. The speeches encouraging, heartwarming. President Olusegun Obasanjo was resplendent in his flowing agbada. Since he quit military service in 1979 up to the time he was inaugurated down to the present, agbada has become his trade mark. Lagos State Governor, Senator Bola Tinubu was not left out. He came with his commissioners and he was acknowledged as the landlord. | |
